ilitary Forests and Estates of the Czech Republic (VLS ČR, s. p.) is a state enterprise operating under the Ministry of Defence of the Czech Republic. Its primary mission is the sustainable management of forests and land historically designated for national defense—particularly within and around military training areas.
VLS manages approximately 140,000 hectares of forest, agricultural land, and water bodies. The enterprise is headquartered in Prague and organized into several regional divisions and local administrative units, including those in Brdy, the Šumava Mountains, the Doupov Hills, Libavá, and Bzenec.
In each region, VLS carries out comprehensive forest ecosystem care, including timber harvesting, reforestation, nature protection, gamekeeping, and water resource management. In addition to its production functions, the enterprise fulfills important ecological and security-related roles, often in cooperation with the Czech Army.
In recent years, VLS has focused on adapting forests to climate change, supporting natural regeneration, and promoting sustainable forestry practices. The enterprise also operates forest nurseries, sawmills, and hunting grounds, and is active in forest education and public outreach.
