  1. The Rio Grande do Sul Military Fire Brigade (CBMRS) was created in 1895 as part of the Gaúcho Military Police (gendarmerie) and only became an independent institution in 2017. The CBMRS is responsible for firefighting jobs, aquatic rescues (lifeguards services), rescues at heights and within confined spaces, in addition to overseeing safety rules and regulations in homes, buildings and other constructions. Unlike other Brazilian gendarmeries, the CBMRS does not have the ranks of: corporal, officer candidate or 2nd lieutenant in its hierarchy.
